Chapter 25 - Sworn Upon a Sword

Resets: 4 (77)
Turns: 5 (376)

Top-Left: Conomor, Linoan, Galzus
Top-Center: Nanna, Xavier, Finn
Top-Right: Mareeta, Ced, Lara
Bottom-Left: Eyval, Halvan, Karin
Bottom-Center: Leif, Pan, Osian
Bottom-Right: Sara, Asbel, Olwen

The final showdown with Veld. Manfloy pays him a visit, and he is not too pleased with how Veld has gotten himself backed into a corner. However, to respect the fact that the entire plot to get Quan assassinated and to steal Northern Thracia away from Travant right as he unified Thracia was all a carefully orchestrated plot by Veld, and that if they are able to stop Leif here, it can leave the Loptian Order unchecked in the region, Manfloy decides to give Veld a chance here, and provides him some assisstance with a group of Deadlords.

The map has six different rooms each with a Deadlord and a few accompanying enemies. Leif's army starts in 6 different locations in front of each room. The goal is to defeat the Deadlords and stand someone on the seal in the center of each room. Once this is fulfilled, the room in the center of the map will open on the following turn allowing us to approach and defeat Veld.

The Deadlords are strong. Some of them are extremely dangerous and it would be ill advised to charge in to attack them, Most notably the Hero in the top-center, and the sage in the top-right. The Hero's stats and weapons are reflective of Galzus, so Master weapons very fast, and has both Luna and Astra. The Sage is reflective of Sarah. She has Prayer and Wrath. She also has Nosferatu and a Berserk Staff.

Fortunately, while the rooms do have a +10 Magic effect to them, they are still considered targetable with Status staves. I managed to get Nanna to C staff a couple chapters back, and she was barely able to hit 16 Magic. By Holding a Flame Sword, she gets to have 21 Magic and is able to hit Enemies that have 20 Magic, like the Deadlord Sage.

So the opening turn of the map involve killing the Sorcerors, because they all have Fenrir and can kill some of my units, then I set up for debilitating the various Deadlords with Statuses. I start by Opening the door in the Top-Center, so Nanna can enter the room and hit the Sage with Sleep. I then have to hit the Hero who is in that room with Sleep as well, which isn't too bad because he has less than 20 Magic. For the Bottom-Left, the Sniper has relatively low Attack, so Halvan is simply able to tank their attack. Top-Left and Bottom-Center do not have any ranged attacks, so it is safe to KO the Sorceror without any issues. Bottom-Right I just use Asbel and dodge tank. I use Berserk Staff on the Warrior for good measure.

On the turns afterwards, I put the Sniper and the Rogue on the left side rooms to sleep. Zombie Reydrick in the bottom-center room is once again easily cut to pieces by Leif with the Blagi Blade. And once that is done, the Deadlords are dealt with and we start to move to the center.

Once the room to the center opens up, I position just outside of Veld's range. he has the Stone tome, and being hit by that is consdered death unless healed with the Kaia staff. But since it is a range 3-10 Tome, he can be freely attacked as long as I strike at him first. So I do. Double Warp Staff to throw Asbel and Leif beside Veld and 2 quick Crits later, and Veld is down, and the game is over.

This was a pretty fun playthrough of the game, and I definitely feel like I had learned to play the game a whole lot better than the last time I did a run. Getting to read the story in English once again made me appreciate the vast and rich world building of the Jugdral saga. But at the same time, I can also feel a bit of that older FE issue where a lot of characters are just kind of there. Even a lot of the more important ones, so there's not quite as much character development in the game as there was for characters throughout FE4. It's definitely something that leaves some room for expansion if they every decide to remake Thracia 776.

FINAL RANKING: C
