Chapter 3 - Kerberos' Gate

Resets: 1
Turn Count: 13 (43)

We reach Kerberos' Gate, a fort on the edge of Munster, Reydrik is in the area, having just reached the fort a bit prior to rest from travelling. We are told that child hunts are already in progression in the area, and that there is also a rebel group called Magi trying to mount a resistance force against the Empire in Munster. The fort is a small location but pretty heavily guarded. The goal of the map is to rescue the children by bringing them back to the village in the bottom right, and then to seize the throne. It is necessary to bring the children back as they provide some valuable items and one is required to recruit a character later on.

The map is a bit of an annoyance to get through quickly because you get a bit bottlenecked around the fort area. It also wastes some time bringing the kids back to the houses because I don't actually remember which kid goes to which house. The housing issue is a bit of a moot point though, because I take a bit too long and end up having Osian hit by a 40% kill shot because an enemy reinforcement spawned as I was trying to bait the Elfire Bishop over in order to capture him, causing the first reset of the run.

The second time around goes a lot smoother. I play the map the same way as before just a bit more aggressively. Rescuing the children goes by without any mixups this time. I have my higher movement units with Dagdar, Eyval, Finn, and Ronan do most of the ferrying around of the children while the rest of my units handle the rest of the enemy forces. This time I'm able to bait out the Bishop without any problems. I take out the boss by chipping him dowm with Light Brand and critical hits with Vouge. I haven't mentioned this yet but crits in Jugdral saga are calculated as 2x Atk instead of 3x Damage, so getting critical hits on high defense targets will allow you to deal damage to them, where as other games you'd do 3x0 for 0 damage.

We are able to take the fort, but the fanfare is shortlived. As mentioned earlier, we caught up to Raydrick, who's the one in charge of the area. He forces us to surrender by using Nanna as a hostage. Leif and Eyval let themselves be captured while everyone else is forced to retreat. Now the game begins for real.

Before ending the chapter, I rearrange some of my equipment, leaving Leif with just an iron sword and Light Brand, while Lithis has just an Armorslayer. I can't quite remember how equipment gets moved over into the next chapter, but I think if I have more on hand on those two, there are more treasure boxes of items that need to be opened to reclaim items in the upcoming chapter, so for speed purposes, it's better to pack light. In hindsight, I shouldn't have brought the Armorslayer because I completely forgot that its weapon level requirement is B, and nobody has B Sword yet.
