Chapter 9 - The Cause of Sorrow (Cont.)

It is now Christmas, and I spend some time chilling with Dimitri. We learn a bit more about some of his past and his connection to Edelgard, and how they met when she was in the Kingdom. We make a wish that nobody is unjustly taken from us, sadly... that's not going to be a wish that is going to last very long.

Happy Boxing Day. Remember not to stay up late at Christmas Raves at the abandoned chapel. Bad things might happen.

There's a couple more beasts in this map compared to Hard mode. It isn't too challenging to deal with the beasts, given the general strength of my units, but I do need to be careful not to let my guard down, since they can take a pretty hefty beating and do have a decent amount of attack to them. I do need to play the map aggressively in order to keep the NPC students out of harm's way, but it's not a big issue.

I loaded up on Battalions with Fusillade for this map. Having a lot of high movement units is a big asset for this map as it allows me to quickly move out and draw attention away from the Students in the back of the map. I open the map up with a Stride, and have Hilda fly over to open the treasure chest. I KO the beast directly in front of my team by having Sylvain drive-by Fusillade as he, Dorothea and Dimitri head to the right. Ashe drops down another Fusillade for the armor break, and then Dedue and Rikka go in and punch the thing to death. Ingrid and Lysithea head towards the left side of the map. I use another Fusillade to draw the attention on the beast to the left towards Ingrid who parked her horse in a thicket, while Lysithea drops powerful magic attacks without worry of drawing any aggro.

Dedue, now being a Fortress Knight, actually has enough defense to take zero damage from the beasts. As does Dimitri with the Aegis Shield and Duscur Heavies. This makes it extremely easy for me to just throw them far ahead in the map to get the attention of the demonic beasts to walk back towards my army, and then for me to just dump down gambits or take advantage of their barrier weaknesses to quickly shatter their barriers and take them out.

Within a few turns, all the beasts are taken out and the Students are saved. One Divine Pulse was used because it's a bit hard to see at times whether you're targetting the right spot in the barrier with a Fusillade, so I shot the wrong square and didn't perform a full barrier break as intended.
