Chapter 7 - Field of the Eagle and Lion

Monastery Exploration

The end of this month is the Battle of the Eagle and Lion. We participate in a bit of Fishing for Flayn, then work on some faculty training for most of the remainder of the first week. We use some renown towards Cethleann's statue as I have a large number of lance users and healers on my roster so I feel like it is of my best interests to work towards getting extra Lance/Faith exp first. Dimitri hits B rank Authority in the first study session which is important as it allows him to start using the Duscur Heavy Armor Battalion along with other soon to be acquired Paralogue Battalions. Speaking of Paralogues, we set out for a couple of them upon the following Sunday.

Ingrid and Dorothea's Paralogue. The goal is to reach the bottom right corner with Ingrid, or rout. Since we like the senseless slaughtering of bandits, we will be routing them. The Brigands and Archers generally have 10 or 15 AS depending on whether they are holding a Steel or not. The Thieves have closer to 20 AS. There's also a small handful of added advanced class enemies such as Warriors and Snipers.

The key difference that I'll need to pay attention to for this map, compared to Hard mode would be that the enemy reinforcements will spawn and move on the same turn. This made me a bit concerned for some of the ambushes that pop up in the later parts of the map.

This paralogue was a bit rougher than I was hoping for, but ultimately we made it through in one piece. The enemy reinforcements from the top right corner of the map spawned an additional thief every time compared to hard mode, and while spread out, the amount of enemies to deal with and the lava floor did start to wear my team out. Dimitri's high mobility and high defense made him the go-to person for leading the charge on the map, but the enemies were also a bit bulkier than I was hoping for which often made them take 3 hits to KO. I also missed a few 80-90% accurate attacks here and there that also kept me on my toes.

For the most part, I had my team stick as one group and moved to the right first thing in the map. Once I took out the reinforcement Thieves, I started to head south towards the path with the treasure box. As there was pretty constant combat up until the point I reached the treasure box, I had to take things fairly slowly. Had some interesting happenings of Byleth being at 1HP, poisoned, and standing on lava, where passive damage is fortunately not able to kill.

After taking out the spawn commander, a few more reinforcements spawn from the starting point of the map. I end up part way into a turn where I was throwing around attacks to chip and KO the Warrior and didn't realize the other enemies that had axes were not Brigands, but Thieves. So they actually had 19 AS and Pass and were threatening to just walk past some of my units and kill my mages. This led to some desperation gambits where I used a gambit to stun one, but needed to gambit another one with Marianne who would still get 2x hit and die for doing so. So I set things up such that they'd be at a low enough HP so that they would get themselves killed by Marianne's Levin Sword before they could hit her a second time. This saved me a Divine Pulse use.

As I was walking down to the bottom of the map, I flew Ingrid to the left to KO the Brigand with the Prayer Ring. I was intending to try to spawn the ambush that appeared somewhere around that area, but nothing seemed to happen, so instead I just flew ingrid back to regroup with my other units and proceeded to the bottom right corner of the map, thus skipping one of the ambushes entirely. I triggered the ambush in the bottom right corner at a safe distance from the enemy spawns and was able to take them out with relative easy. The warrior with a Devil Axe and sniper in the bottom left started moving when I reached close to the bottom right corner of the map, but they lined themselves up neatly to be run through by Assault Troop, making them trivial to take out. There was also an Assassin that spawns from the top right corner, who had about 29 AS and 35 Atk, but I managed to catch them on the lava tiles which reduced their evade making them easy to take out before they could do anything.

Two Divine Pulse uses were used in this map. Once because I misclicked and attacked normally against an enemy with Ashe instead of using Deadeye, so I missed a KO I needed. Another because I misjudged Thief movement ranges a bit at the early parts of the map and put myself into a fork situation, where 2 characters were at death risk, but I could only use reposition to save one.

We pick up the Hero Relic Luin, and move on for another for another Paralogue.
