Chapter 15 - Valley of Torment (Cont.)

A couple Certifications, and we are on the way to meeting Rodrigue. Money has been kind of tight as of late. Ashe busting up a whole Iron Bow+ every battle, and performing master class promotions kind of adds up, so I sold about 20 Umbral Steel as well to continue funding my army.

Battle: Ambush at Ailell

Deploy: Rikka, Dimitri, Dorothea, Lysithea, Annette (Catherine), Ashe (Sylvain), Ingrid (Seteth), Hilda, Flayn, Petra

House Rowe of the Faerghus Dukedom has ambushed us at Ailell. The map has a lot of Armors and Archers in it, and a lot of damaging terrain. As such, it is valuable to take advantage of my range game with my Mages, and to take advantage of Flier movement to traverse the map. There's a few items of value to steal in this map, such as a Master Seal, and a Lampos Shield. While anti-cav weaponry doesn't come up too often, it is a weightless shield that provides a free +3 defense. At worst, I can sell it off to make a quick buck.

The enemies are relatively slower than usual, making it possible for some of my faster units to get 2x hits on them, making the enemies much easier to KO in one attack round. Ingrid and Hilda can easly fly around the map and take out Archers with 2x hits, while my mages walk around melting down Armors with magic attacks.

The map goes fairly well at first, but I end up triggering Gwendal to move a bit sooner than I was wanting him to be, which causes some issues as I wasn't done with things on the map, and didn't want to be killing him just yet. This leads to a bit of a rushed mess as I had to get Rikka to move half way across the map to talk to Rodrigue, to get an item, then run back to grab a treasure box. Things weren't really difficult, but I definitely played it sloppy.

For the most part, I kept Gwendal from moving by dropping Gambits on him, as I tried to finish the stuff I needed to on the map. I probably could have tried to take an extra turn instead of being impatient and things would have gone a lot smoother.

Two Divine Pulse uses for this map, both cases as a result of me mismanaging my actions and positioning. One caused Annette to get killed, another caused me to have Petra with a full inventory and no way to trade away items to make room for the Lampos Shield. This would have been three but Lysithea dodged a 70% OHKO attempt from a spawning Paladin.

We are able to rendezvous with Rodrigue, and learn a bit more about the state of Faerghus. Rodrigue would want us to help retake Faerghus from Cornelia and the Empire, but Dimitri will not be swayed from his desire for revenge, so we will focus on the Empire first. Rodrigue gives Dimitri the Areadbhar, and Dimitri is now able to promote to Great Lord.

After playing a few maps, I can conclude I'm not likely to be using Seteth for anything. So I'll drop him.
